Houston newborn and family photographer, Lisa Carr with Belly to Baby Studios, recently photographed this new family of three here in our studio. This portrait was their first family photo session together as a new family. I always tell my newborn parents that you will not have this moment back, when your baby is this small and fits so well in your arms. Enjoy the long cuddles and when your baby falls asleep on your chest. This phase of your newborn’s life will go by so quickly.
I remember the first 8 weeks after our daughter was born. I was a walking zombie and so tired. I could not even think or even imagine having portraits taken of me at all. I was exhausted and just trying to get use to a new routine and getting up every few hours to feed our daughter! Let’s just say that yoga pants, t-shirts and baseball hats were my friend during this time. Oh, and Starbucks too. Looking back, I wish I would have stopped and just taken a family portrait at this stage of our lives together. Yes, I have amazing newborn portraits of our daughter, but not one professional portrait of me with her, or our new family of three.
When my new parents come back into the studio for their newborn and family portrait order appointment, I always hear them say they are so glad they have this family portrait. They tell me how tired they were, but they look better than they thought they would. Most of all, they treasure and appreciate this documented moment in time. They have printed and framed portraits in the home, on their walls, in an album, so they can look at the images and share them with their family for years to come.
